WISA is truly saddened and shocked by the current culture of selected hatred and violence in South Africa.
We strongly condemn the current wave of xenophobic attacks against foreigners, mainly non-citizens hailing from African countries.
We respect economic migrants, refugees and asylum seekers and acknowledge the economic contribution they make to our country, and the water sector.
Hate crimes have a devastating effect on their victims, our communities, and on South African society as a whole.
WISA therefore appeals to politicians, community leaders and people in positions of authority to do everything in their power to calm the situation and combine efforts to bring an end to unrest.
