Training course: Advanced Wastewater Treatment Control: Secondary Treatment Processes – Gauteng
22 Oct 2019 @ 8:00 AM - 23 Oct 2019 @ 5:00 PM
Many of the Process Controllers who are involved in wastewater treatment are quite proficient in their understanding of the processes being applied during treatment, but need some assistance when it comes to the calculations required to optimise these processes. This course focuses on those calculations as they apply to the Secondary Treatment Processes, especially Activated Sludge. The course is intended to be an interactive training event where the calculations will be unpacked, practiced and then interpreted in practical on-site situations.

Core presenter: Dewald van Staden – Pr PC Water, Pr. Nat.Sci, FWISA
Dewald van Staden has been involved in the field of water and wastewater treatment for the last 20 years. He obtained his B.Tech degree in Water Care from the Tshwane University of Technology, is registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a Professional Natural Scientist and with the Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) as a Professional Process Controller.
He currently holds a senior position at Enviro Metsi (Pty) Ltd where his involvement in water and wastewater treatment focuses on management, operation and maintenance of treatment works. The extent of these projects range from "management only"- services to contracts where they are responsible for the entire treatment process and all the associated functions
As these projects are typically governed by the criteria set by the Department of Water and Sanitation in the Blue drop and Green Drop initiatives, he also got involved in the management of those criteria. This later led him to qualify as a Blue Drop / Green Drop Inspector where he acted as a consultant to the Department during the assessments
