Workshop – Bridging the gap and new technologies in water

The Water Science Division and Gauteng Branch, in collaboration with the University of Johannesburg and Eskom are hosting a one-day workshop aimed at strengthening collaboration between the water sector and research institutions. Closer collaboration is required between the various sectors, to ensure research efforts are aligned with current and future challenges facing the water sector in South Africa. We hope to make this an annual event for the Gauteng Branch and include other tertiary institutions in this platform.
The workshop is divided into three sections:
1. WISA presentations: Bridging the gap and new technologies in water.
9.00 – 9.25 A Water Sector Practitioners Perspective on Research, Development and Innovation – Ashwin Seetal (CSIR)
9.25 – 9.50 Sludge is the new Gold: Advances in Sludge Beneficiation and Biogas Production – Dr Marlene van der Merwe Botha (Watergroup)
9.50 – 10.20 Organica WWTW – Food Chain Reactors – Spider Delport (Murray and Roberts Water)
2. Call to Action: Presentation by Mom Vi from Malobanyane Co-operative (Alex Food garden) on real-world water challenges for emerging farmers. This is part of the divisions ongoing efforts to get water professionals involved in social responsibility initiatives related to water.
3. UJ and Eskom: Overview and presentations on UJ and Eskom current research initiatives in water and wastewater treatment.

Cost: R230 per person for WISA members,
R345 per person for non WISA members,
R115 for registered full -time students from other academic institutions.
