GOAL
Ensuring access to basic services (Water &Sanitation) for all resident communities in Nelson Mandela Bay.

FUNCTIONS
The Water and Sanitation Sub Directorate is divided into six divisions each headed by an Assistant Director:

(i) Water Distribution Division
• This division deals with the bulk supply pipeline, water treatment, dams and bulk supply reservoirs, as well as the distribution of water to consumers.
•Emergency and preventative maintenance of the water reticulation system.
•Provision of water meter connections.
•Technical support for development.

(ii) Bulk Water Supply Division
•This division deals with the management of bulk supply pipeline,
•Water treatment, dams and bulk supply reservoirs, to potable standards and conveying it via bulk watermains to the City.
•Emergency and preventative maintenance of bulk watermains, water treatment, dams and reservoirs.

(iii) Wastewater Treatment Division
•This division deals with the treatment of all wastewater, control of treatment works and effluent quality.
•It is also the responsibility of this division to monitoring the discharge of commercial and industrial wastewater.

(iv) Waste Water Conveyance Division
•This division is responsible for the management of sewer reticulation and connections.
•Emergency and preventative maintenance of the sewerage reticulation system.
•Technical support for development.

(v) Planning and Research Division Division
•This division is responsible for forward planning of the water& sanitation and the implementation of these strategic project, and master planning of bulk water and sanitation services to support the development of the city.
•Identification and design of projects to support master planning.
•Identification and research of new technologies that affect water and sanitation services.

(vi) Plant Maintenance Division
This division’s role is to maintain electrical, mechanical plant and machinery such as water pumps, motors, purification works and treatment works.
